The complexity of the interventions in the built or the natural environment requires today the participation of professionals capable of understanding not only the final project (as a product) but also the process of developing the project - as a dynamic sequence of activities in time. Therefore, the professionals of the building sector (architects, urban planners, designers, engineers) require today specialized knowledge on planning and management of projects for the built environment.

With an average of 30 students registered per year, the Masters in Project Management for the Built Environment (mgpa) is one of the graduate programs with fastest growth in the Faculté de l'aménagement.

Our graduate programs provide the students with the skills and knowledge required to manage projects in general and construction projects in particular.

This emphasis on the particularities of the building sector and on the professional practice for the built environment distinguishes our Masters and our DESS from other graduate programs in "general" project management. Thus, the professionals graduated from mgpa have not only a solid training on project management but also a comprehensive knowledge of the particularities of its application in the construction sector.

Linked to the Masters in project management, this orientation within the Professional Masters in Architecture (4th year of studies) introduces the students to the processes of initiating, planning and managing a project of architecture.

This orientation seeks to introduce the students to a broader area of professional practice in architecture in which the architect has a larger capacity of decision making within the project.

We have a team of specialized professors, invited speakers and project managers in professional practice to offer you a highly qualified training and a motivating learning experience.

The mgpa programs combine resources from the Faculté de l'aménagement, the École des hautes études commerciales de Montréal (HEC) and the École polytechnique.

Research in project management mgpa - grif:

The research in the area of project management is closely linked to the area of project procurement (that is, the early strategic decisions that the client must make to initiate the project). In fact, the process of developing a construction project is highly influenced by the relationships between the client and the project team. The research in this area explores the different areas in which decisions must be made and the information that is required in this process.
