Gonzalo Lizarralde email

Associate professor at the School of Architecture of Université de Montréal. He is the director of the IF Research Group (grif) and founding member of the international network i-Rec (Information and Research for Reconstruction). Gonzalo Lizarralde is an expert in the fields of project management, implementation and evaluation of architecture and urban planning projects. He has long-standing experience as a researcher and consultant on design and construction projects, in particular in the housing and post-disaster reconstruction sectors. He has been in charge of, or has participated in, numerous research projects and grants (for a total budget of more than 3,5 M$). Dr Lizarralde has also taught in various international universities, including University of Cape Town (South Africa), McGill University (Canada), Isthmus Architectural and Design School for Latin America and the Caribbean (Panama), Loughborough University (UK) and Universidad del Valle and Universidad Javeriana (Colombia).

Benjamin Herazo email

Research Projects Coordinator of the IF Research Group. Architect with a master's degree in economics and a PhD from the Faculty of Environmental Design at the University of Montreal. He has previously spent 15 years as an associate professor, directive and dean in the Environmental Studies School at the Javeriana University in Colombia. He also had experience in architectural firms and has been a consultant and researcher in environmental management. His PhD dissertation project focused on how sustainable development contributes to the alignment between strategic and tactical management in the building sector.

Danielle Labbé email

Danielle Labbé completed her PhD at the School of Community and Regional Planning (University of British Columbia). She is currently an Assistant Professor at the Institut d’Urbanisme (Université de Montréal), where she is also affiliated to the Centre d’études de l’Asie de l’Est (CETASE). Danielle's research is focused on the inter-relations between the production and appropriation of urban space in Vietnam. Her work uses a combination of historical, process-oriented, and social agency perspectives to explore the encounters between state intentions, governing practices, and everyday life during the urbanization process. Through this approach, Danielle’s research shows that, although taking place during the “global era,” the ongoing urban transition in Vietnam remains deeply rooted in local circumstances.

Lisa Bornstein email

Associate professor at the School of Urban Planning ,McGill University. Lisa Bornstein is an expert in international planning, economic development, environmental policy and planning, and institutions and governance. She explores the role of institutions and decision-making processes in public debates and consultations. She has vast experience in research and consultation in urban planning, and in analysis of policy interventions in Latin America and Africa. She has actively participated in several projects of the Groupe Interuniversitaire de Montréal (GIM) and coordinates the relationships between this network and Œuvre Durable.

Adriana López email

Architect with a master degree in Urbanism and PhD in Environmental Sciences. Currently works as assistant professor at the Engineering school of natural resources and the environment at Universidad del Valle in Cali-Colombia. She has been working in research projects during the last 10 years focused on sustainability of informal settlements, she also worked as a researcher at UQAM and the University of Montreal as part of two research stays on multivariable indicators for urban sustainability assessment with the ELAP program. In 2010, she was awarded as ‘Green Talent’ by the German Federal Ministry of Education and research for this approach; she worked as a visitor researcher at the United Nations University in Bonn on urban vulnerability to climate change in informal settlements.

Karine Bouchereau email

Karine Jadotte Bouchereau is a graduate of the Autonomous University of Guadalajara (UAG) with a master's degree in Urban Planning. She is professor of urban planning and history of architecture at the Faculty of Sciences (FDS) of the State University of Haiti (UEH) and also co-owner and Executive Director of BENJAMIN-JADOTTE design office, engineers and architects. Gonzalo González email

Architect, Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture of the Central University "Marta Abreu" of Las Villas. Master in Sustainable Buildings, researches the themes of risk reduction in the built habitat. He does his doctorate in the resettlement of populations at risk due to the effects of climate change in coastal areas of Cuba. He works as a municipal advisor in the international collaboration program "Habitat 2", where he has developed experiences of participatory design projects, in addition to the application of instruments for habitat management with social participation. Systems and computer engineer with a master's degree in industrial engineering and a doctorate in management. She was a doctoral fellow of the Siemens Stiftung with the International Research Network for Social Economic Empowerment (IRENE-SEE). She is currently a professor at the International School of Economics and Administrative Sciences of the Universidad de la Sabana and at the Faculty of Administration of the Universidad de los Andes in Colombia. She has worked in the public sector in the Ministries of Education and ICT. She is currently a member of the editorial committee for the Annual Review of Social Partnerships (ARSP). His research in the field of organizational studies focuses on the study of social partnerships and the analysis of the relationships between technology and society.

David Smith email

David Smith is an architect and a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Montréal’s School of Architecture. His research interests are located in the intersections between the built environment and food security, livelihoods, disaster risk reduction and collaborative governance. He holds a master’s in architecture from Laval University in Canada and a master’s in development and emergency practice from Oxford Brookes University in the United Kingdom. David was an assistant professor and completed his PhD at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Norway. His doctoral thesis is titled ‘Marketplaces as critical urban infrastructure: relational attributes and disaster resilience from the perspectives of traders and customers in Port-au-Prince, Haiti’.

Christopher Bryant email

Christopher Bryant holds a Ph.D. from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He was a professor of geography at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, and was Director of the Local Development Program for the same institution from 1984 to 1990. He has been a full professor in geography at the Université de Montréal since 1990. He is the President (2000-2006) of the Commission of the International Geographic Union on Sustainable Development and Rural Systems and the outgoing Editor (1997-2010) of the Canadian Journal of Regional Science. He is currently Director of the Laboratory for Sustainable Development and Territorial Dynamics of the Department of Geography, Université de Montréal. He is an internationally recognized leader in research on rural and small town territories as well as on the transformation of peri-urban territories and their planning and management within the framework of metropolitan regions.

Kevin Gould email

Kevin Gould is an expert in critical development studies, political ecology, and economic geography. His research explores environmental and economic policy-making in the Americas. Building on new economic geography and political ecology literature, Dr. Gould's work investigates the politics of market-assisted land reform, post-disaster reconstruction, environmental impact assessment, and Cold War infrastructure development. Through his research, he seeks to challenge the often violent transnational processes and epistemologies that connect Canada, the United States and Guatemala. Kevin Gould completed his Ph.D. in Human Geography at the University of British Columbia in 2009.

She has extensive work experience in private companies in the administrative and human resources development areas and since 1994 she has served as Executive Director of the Antioquia Presente Corporation, during which time she has led resettlements of the population generated by natural disasters, geological hazards, violence and socio-political conflict, and development projects.

He co-founded several collective initiatives of collaborative work as Citizen Office of the Bicycle OCBI, the Association of Latin American Journals of Architecture ARLA, and the Taller de Barrio, an innovation project in architectural education which seeks to deepen the possibilities of co - design based on dialogue and participation between academia, government and civil society.
