| Denisse Schmidt is an architect and doctoral student in Architecture and Urban Planning. Her research project, disaster risk reduction (DRR) from a multidimensional perspective in Nonguén Valley, Biobio, Chile evaluates the variables used in formal and informal public policies in DRR. The project describes administrative responses to flooding in the Nonguén valley and the contrast between different local initiatives to face natural hazards. | Héctor Mayorga, is a sanitation engineer and student of the Master's Degree in Integrated Water Resources Management of the School of Natural Resources and Environmental Engineering at EIDENAR (Engineering School of Natural Ressources and the Environment). He is a research assistant on the ADAPTO project with Urban Intervention Laboratory at the Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia. His research will evaluate a strategy for the implementation of the Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS). He is currently developing a flooding simulation model with students from the Université de Montréal to evaluate urban mitigation proposals for low-cost SUDS. | Edwin Segura is an architect with a master's degree in architecture and urban planning from the Universidad del Valle, with experience in the construction sector, project development, strategic evaluations of urban projects in the public sector, and feasibility of real estate projects in the private sector. Currently, he is a doctoral student in Environmental Sciences, in the line of environmental management of the territory at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Education of the University of Cauca. He has teaching experience in the area of urban planning, research and geographic information systems at the Universidad del Valle and the Universidad del Pacífico. | Camila Soto Castro is a student in the School of Architecture at the Universidad del Bio Bio, in Chile. She received the internship scholarship from the ADAPTO project to join the Urban Intervention Laboratory at the Universidad del Valle as a research assistant and will be working through the Habitat and Sustainable Development research group. She will participate in design and collaborative construction exercises as part of urban micro-projects. | Lina Caicedo is an environmental engineer and a Master’s student in Integrated Water Resource Management. Lina contributes to the ADAPTO project as a research assistant at the Urban Intervention Laboratory (Universidad del Valle). Her research objective is to develop a strategy to strengthen community-based adaptation to climate risk initiatives that have the potential to be replicated in the hillsides and scaled up to the municipal adaptation to climate change strategy for the municipality of Yumbo, Valle del Cauca, Colombia. Lina will hold a research internship at the University of McGill, Canada, beginning in September 2018. Her internship is part of the ELAP (Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program) funded by the Canadian government.

| Daniela Pando Echemandía is a fifth-year student in the Architecture and Urban Planning program at the Universidad Central de las Villas, Cuba. She received the travel bursary to participate in ADAPTO’s international seminar and workshop “Co-existing with water” . The event focused on finding solutions for water-related challenges that affect shanty towns. Daniela is a member of the research group “Resilience and Vulnerability in the Built Environment”, where she studies the subject of her dissertation: post-disaster interventions in coastal areas menaced by the effects of climate change.

| Iliam Delgado is a student at the School of Architecture in the Universidad del Bio-Bio. He received a bursary to participate in ADAPTO project events. Iliam participated in the seminar and workshop entitled “Co-existing with water” that took place in Cali Colombia in March 2018. His project, Vertical Community Gardens, was developed during his participation in neighborhood workshops in 2016 with Professors Hernan Ascui and Nelson Arias. During the second stage of the development of the project, he worked with Luciano Riquelme (fourth year student in 2017) and professors Claudio Araneda, Ignacio Bisbal, Roberto Burdiles, Nicolás Saez, Luis Felipe Maureira as well as Hernán and Nelson.

| Karolina Ramírez Vidal is an agroecologist in training; social communicator from the Universidad del Valle and holds a master in Gender Equity Policies from the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona. She is currently studying for a master's degree in Sustainable Development with emphasis on food sovereignty at the Universidad del Valle. The main objective of her research is to learn about experiences of transition and agro-ecological recovery in rural contexts affected by erosion and intensive use of agro-toxins. She works as a professor at the Faculty of Integrated Arts of the Universidad del Valle and is part of the work team of the Laboratorio de Intervención Urbana LIUR, where she supports the Communications and research for ADAPTO. | Bernardita Cuadra Frindt is a 5th year student at the Escuela de Arquitectura at the Universidad del Bio Bio. She was selected by her faculty to participate in the seminar and workshop “Éticas de barrio” in Santa Clara, Cuba in March 2019. She was invited to this meeting due to her participation at the neighborhood workshop of the community of Nonguén, where she made an urban proposal to rescue the edge of the "Nonguén" estuary guided by professors Ignacio Bisbal and Claudio Araneda. She has outstanding skills in leadership, management capacity and creativity; last year she and a multidisciplinary group of students were awarded first place for their proposal for a challenge in innovation in emergency housing at the regional level. | Fernanda Córdova is an architect and master's student in Project Management at the Faculty of Environmental Design at the Université de Montréal. The ADAPTO project funded her trip to Santa Clara, Cuba, to work on her research project. This activity took place within the framework of the Seminar and International Workshop “Éticas de barrio.” Her research explores the role of the Community Architect in the planning, design, and monitoring of housing projects in Santa Clara, Cuba. The analysis of the financial, social, environmental and political aspects of this context reveals the multidimensional nature of this key stakeholder in Cuban construction. | Steffen Lajoie is a Doctoral Student in Urban Planning at the Université de Montréal. Steffen participated in the international workshop “Co-existing with water” in March 2018 that received logistics funding as part of the ADAPTO project. Steffen’s project explores adaptation to climate change pathways and how they are influenced by access to resources in Yumbo, Colombia. Using an ethnographic approach, his work seeks to better understand how a complex social and political-ecological context interplays with power, human agency and diversity in marginalized communities to influence the opportunities and tradeoffs of climate change adaptation in the Global South. | ![]() |

They participated in the workshop alongside Master’s students in Architecture and Urbanism from the Universidad del Valle, Master’s students in Urban Planning from McGill University, and Architecture undergraduates from the Universidad del Bio-Bio and the Universidad Central de Cuba. Twelve students from the Architecture School of the Universidad Central de Cuba, one student from the Master's Degree in Urban Planning of McGill University, one undergraduate student from the Bio-Bio University and two students from the Universidad del Valle, Colombia, also participated.
